- In-Office Whitening: Your Mt. Pleasant dentist will cover your gums and tooth-root surface with a plastic retractor which will be used to keep your lips and cheeks away from the surface of your teeth. The dentist will then apply extra strength hydrogen-peroxide that can only be used by professionals. The hydrogen-peroxide is left on your teeth for an hour.
- Take-Home Whitening: This method is more convenient for people but won't necessarily give you the same results. Your doctor will give you a custom-made plastic mouth tray, one for the top jaw and the other for the bottom jaw. A gel, also provided by your doctor, will be put into the trays and then placed over your teeth. You will need to leave the tray on for about an hour. A single application generally won't produce the optimal results, so you will need to repeat the process until you are satisfied with your smile.
